Review of the Hackney Carriage Tariff pdf icon PDF 150 KB

The purpose of this report is to seek Members’ approval to consult the taxi trade on whether or not the Hackney Carriage tariff should be reviewed.

Minutes:

Discussion:

The Committee considered a report seeking approval to consult the taxi trade on whether or not the Hackney Carriage tariff should be reviewed.

The Licensing Manager reported that a request for an increase in tariffs had been received from an individual driver. In the past, requests had been received from the Medway Licensed Taxi Drivers Association (MLTDA) although it had not done so since 2014. The Committee’s approval was therefore sought to poll the taxi trade on whether the tariff should be reviewed. The results of the poll would be reported back to the Sub-Committee.

The Licensing Manager also sought approval to engage with the trade on the drafting of a policy for the future review of the Hackney Carriage tariffs, which would include the frequency and methodology of the reviews.

Clarification was sought on the costs involved in changing the meters and the Licensing Manager confirmed that meter agents would be consulted on whether meters could accommodate any suggested change in tariff. The cost of changing the meters would be met by the trade.

Decision:

The Sub-Committee:

a)     approved the request to poll the taxi trade with the results being reported back to a future meeting; and

b)     approved the request to engage with the trade on drafting a policy for the review of the Hackney Carriage tariffs.
