Wainscott Primary School

We the undersigned petition the council to stand with the parents of Wainscott Primary school who are seeking to revoke the Department for Education academy order.

Wainscott Primary school is a big part of the local history. It has served this community since 1874.

A recent Ofsted inspection found the school to have some isolated issues, and although the teaching and pupils outcomes were graded "good" the school received a rating of "inadequate". The leaders and governors have held their hands up to these issues and are working hard to rectify them.

The Department for Education immediately issued an academy order upon school. With the proposed to take over in September 2019. This is all happening very fast. The parents haven't had any consultation with the academy. We feel the order should either be revoked or at the very least delayed to give the school time to finish implementing changes and for Ofsted to re-inspect.

Parents have full trust in the Senior Leadership Team and the Governors. Wainscott will obtain it's Good rating back again when re-inspected, however this academy order is being pushed through at such a speed that Wainscott couldn't possibly redeem themselves in time. It is proven that Wainscott is not a failing school, they have some fantastic teachers who bring new exciting ways of learning to the classrooms. This shone through in the report and also shows in the performance tables where the school is performing above the national and local authority average in reading, writing and maths.

Wainscott Primary school has the backing of the parents and local community. We are asking for our council to do the same. Help us save Wainscott!
