Protect The Creeping Fig and help secure its future in Lordswood

We the undersigned petition the council to Take an active coordinating role with The Creeping Fig, the Gibraltar Farm developer and relevant Council services to help secure a safe, practical and commercially viable solution allowing The Creeping Fig and its five local jobs to remain in Lordswood. Specifically, we ask Medway Council to: Name a lead officer to coordinate Council involvement; Bring together Planning, Highways and Economic Development; Facilitate a meeting between The Creeping Fig, Medway Council and the Gibraltar Farm developer; Investigate whether a suitable trading location could be incorporated into future North Dane Way/highway arrangements; Explore temporary trading arrangements if works affect the current location; If incorporation is not possible, help identify suitable nearby alternatives and, where appropriate, facilitate discussions with the developer/landowners; and Provide timely information on anticipated works, their impact and likely timetable.

Planned changes to North Dane Way may affect The Creeping Fig’s current trading location.
The Creeping Fig is an established Lordswood business employing five local people and serving residents, workers, tradespeople, commercial drivers and emergency-service personnel. It also supports the wider community through sponsorship of Lordswood Tigers and local initiatives.
The Creeping Fig is not opposed to new housing or responsible development. We believe development and protecting an established local business do not need to be mutually exclusive.
We met Medway Council Planning and Highways officers on 2 September 2026 to discuss the business’s future in relation to proposed changes to North Dane Way. No confirmed future trading solution has yet been identified.
There is still time to address this constructively. Where a safe and practical solution is possible, reasonable efforts should be made to avoid unnecessary loss or displacement of a local business and the five jobs it supports.
