Chatham Development Framework and Proposed Chatham Bus Station
Decision:
192/2007 The Cabinet agreed that the
masterplan for the Brook area of Chatham be adopted subject to any
future amendments regarding the location of the bus station and the
consultation exercise referred to in decision number
193/2007.
193/2007 The Cabinet agreed that a consultation exercise be
undertaken to assess the suitability of a new bus station between
Globe Lane and Military Road adjacent to the Pentagon Shopping
Centre and that this be reported to Cabinet before the end of
November 2007.
194/2007 The Cabinet agreed that revised proposals for the
development of the Sir John Hawkins Way Car Park and former
Perrings building site be deferred pending the outcome of the
consultation exercise as set out in decision number 193/2007.
195/2007 The Cabinet noted the broad public support for the
redevelopment of the Station Gateway area of Chatham to provide a
new station building and forecourt, new residential development, a
new office and commercial quarter, additional short and long stay
parking provision and improved pedestrian links with the retail
core of the town centre be noted but adoption of the masterplan for
that area be deferred pending agreement on new proposals for the
Sir John Hawkins Way area.
196/2007 The Cabinet noted the broad public support for
redevelopment of the Waterfront area to provide new high quality
residential development, waterfront restaurants and bars, a new
cultural facility, business and retail space and improved public
open spaces including new squares, an improved riverside promenade
and improvements to existing open spaces be noted, together with
concerns regarding the location of taller buildings on the
waterfront. Officers be instructed to prepare, in consultation with
stakeholders, including English Heritage, further details on the
proposed locations and heights of tall buildings to enable members
to ensure that proposals are in accordance with the Council's
Building Heights Strategy and consistent with the proposed bid for
World Heritage Status.
