Purpose:

Kent County Council has recently held a Select Committee to consider the impact and opportunities with the introduction of domestic high speed train services using the CTRL in December 2009.

This report will present the KCC Select Committee findings. It will also advise Cabinet of the consultation that Network Rail will be undertaking on the Kent (Rail) Route Utilisation Strategy (RUS) in Spring 2009.

Relevant Overview and Scrutiny Committee: Regeneration, Community and Culture Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Decision:

1/2009 The Cabinet agreed to support the introduction of a formal working arrangement with Kent County Council to consider public transport issues.
2/2009 The Cabinet agreed to respond to the consultation on the Kent Route Utilisation Strategy when it is published early in 2009, taking into account overview and scrutiny's views at that time.

Reasons for the decision:

These decisions will help to ensure that Medway Council's expectations for rail services are presented for consideration in the longer-term plans of the Kent rail network and support the continuing dialogue between Medway Council, Network Rail and Southeastern on Medway's stations and rail services.
