Purpose:

This report will ask Cabinet to recommend to Council to establish a Designation Order, under the provisions of the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 to create an alcohol Control Zone in Strood & Gillingham.

Relevant Overview and Scrutiny Committee: Regeneration, Community and Culture.

Decision:

155/2008 The Cabinet recommended the following to Council on 31 July 2008: (i) To make a Designated Public Places Order as set out in paragraph 3.1 of the report to create alcohol control zones in the Gillingham and Strood areas as shown on the attached plan. (ii) To request officers to review the area and effect of the order 12 months following its implementation.

Reasons for the decision:

Having reviewed the information with regard to anti-social behaviour and being satisfied that a public consultation has been carried out showing general support for the alcohol control zones, Cabinet supports the implementation of an alcohol control zones in the Gillingham and Strood areas. This is in accordance with the Council's priority of reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.
