The purpose of this report is to present to Members a spend to save proposal for the creation of a soccer Academy at Strood Leisure centre.

121/2007 The Cabinet approved the establishment of a new soccer academy at Strood Leisure Centre, subject to the approval by Council of £292,000 being added to the capital programme and allocated to this facility.

The existing facility has come to the end of its useful life and as such this proposal represents a unique opportunity to invest a relatively small amount of money for the first soccer academy in Medway.The project will establish a development centre/academy for football providing opportunities and facilities of excellence standard for the whole community of Medway. Currently there are no such other football specific facilities within Medway, with the closest facility in Kent being situated in Dartford.
