Purpose:

The Gender Equality Duty comes into force in April 2007 and it requires public authorities to promote gender equality and eliminate sex discrimination. This report seeks Cabinet approval on how the Council will meet these requirements.

Decision:

85/2007 The Cabinet authorised the Chief Executive, in consultation with the Portfolio Holder for Corporate Services, to consider the detailed action plan and outcome of consultation on outline priorities and amend the gender equality scheme as appropriate for final publication.

Reasons for the decision:

The council is required to adopt a gender equality scheme to meet its duties under the Equality Act 2006.
