To report on a recommendation from the
Regeneration and Development Overview and Scrutiny Committee that
Cabinet investigate, as a matter of urgency, introducing an alcohol
control zone in Chatham High Street.
173/2006 The Cabinet agreed that officers
initiate formal consultation, including the publishing of all
relevant notices and report back, so that consideration of the
findings can be made by Cabinet leading to a recommendation to
Council as appropriate.
In accordance with the Council's Constitution,
once an Overview and Scrutiny Committee has completed its
deliberations on any matter, the Committee will forward a copy of
its final report to the appropriate place depending on its
implications. In this case, the Cabinet should consider the
Committee's request.Initial views from Kent Police are that the
creation of an alcohol control zone that covers the centre of
Chatham would be of benefit. Representatives of businesses from
Chatham via the petition have also supported this view.
