Decision details

Alleygating Scheme

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Decision made

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

This report is a reference from the Regeneration and Development Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 27 April 2006 regarding three petitions requesting alleygating. Overview and Scrutiny have asked Cabinet to consider the reinstatement of a budget for alleygating schemes.

Decision:

134/2006 The Cabinet agreed that the Community Safety Partnership be requested, as set out in the report, to use the Building Safer Communities Fund to match fund any allocation from the Fire Authority and others, to take forward individual alley gating schemes which are risk assessed against criteria to protect the local community against arson and other forms of anti-social behaviour.
135/2006 The Cabinet agreed that the reinstatement of a budget for alley gating is considered as part of the 2007/2008 budget setting process.

Reasons for the decision:

These decisions sought to address more immediate community safety issues in those alleys with the highest incidence of anti-social behaviour, whilst also bringing forward consideration for further funding within the 2007/2008 budget setting process.
