Decision details

St. Mary's Primary School, Strood

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Decision made

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

St Mary's currently has 36% surplus places and this is forecast to rise to 52% in five years. Poor SATs results are likely to be of serious concern to OfSTED. Therefore, this report proposes that Cabinet authorises a full consultation to close the school.

Decision:

247/2005 The Cabinet agreed that St. Mary's Primary School would remain open for the foreseeable future.

Reasons for the decision:

This takes account of the issues facing the local community and allows more time for improvements to be made. It also ensures the continued provision of the Total Communications Unit at the school.
