Purpose:
This report is requesting Cabinet approval for
theEconomic Development Strategy 2009-2012.

Decision:
227/2009 The Cabinet agreed to adopt the
Economic Development Strategy, and gave delegated authority to the
Director of Regeneration, Community and Culture, in consultation
with the Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Strategic
Growth to make minor changes to the Strategy to ensure consistency
with the forthcoming Employment Land Study.
228/2009 The Cabinet approved the Action Plan, as set out in
Appendix 2 to the report.
Reasons for the decision:
The Economic Development Strategy has
undergone a significant consultation process and revisions have
been made to incorporate feedback and input from local
stakeholders. Local authorities are required by law to have in
place an adopted economic development statement.A comprehensive
Action Plan has now been developed, which incorporates the
programme of counter recessionary measures approved by Cabinet on
14 July 2009. It is imperative that steps are taken now to put in
place the partnerships and funding sources required to develop and
implement the actions whilst still working in parallel to complete
the Employment Land Study.
