Purpose:

The Management Plan sets out how members of the Chatham World Heritage steering group and Partnership will help to preserve and promote the outstanding international significance of Chatham Dockyard and its Defences. It forms part of the bid document for World Heritage Site status. Cabinet are asked to approve its policies and actions as a continued demonstration of support for Chatham's bid.

Decision:

229/2009 The Cabinet approved the World Heritage Site (WHS) nomination dossier for Chatham Dockyard and its Defences, and reconfirmed their support for a WHS nomination for Chatham at the next available opportunity.
230/2009 The Cabinet authorised the Director of Regeneration, Community and Culture, in consultation with the Leader, to agree minor changes necessary to update the nomination prior to submission.

Reasons for the decision:

Cabinet approval sends a strong message of support to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (which is responsible for submitting UK WHS nominations); the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (which grants WHS status) and stakeholders tasked with delivery.
