Purpose:

This report seeks Cabinet approval to enter into a contract for the provision of new and replacement bus shelters across Medway.

Decision:

156/2009 The Cabinet approved the award of the contract for the provision of 60 bus passenger shelters to Trueform Engineering Ltd (Option 1) as part of a 3 year termed contract with the provision to extend for 7 x 1 year periods, subject to market conditions and Medway Council's requirements.
157/2009 The Cabinet approved the award of the contract for the maintenance of 137 bus passenger shelters to Queensbury Shelters Ltd (Option 2) as part of a 3 year termed contract with the provision to extend for 7 x 1 year periods, subject to market conditions and Medway Council's requirements, noting the increase in the number of maintenance visits to each shelter per year, as set out in paragraph 3.3.6 of the report.

Reasons for the decision:

This is consistent with the objectives of the Local Transport Plan (LTP) and Quality Public Transport Corridor Project to provide high quality bus stop facilities to encourage increased use of local bus services which will also help meet other key LTP objectives to reduce congestion and improve air quality.
