Kent County Council has recently held a Select
Committee to consider the impact and opportunities with the
introduction of domestic high speed train services using the CTRL
in December 2009.
This report will present the KCC Select Committee findings. It will
also advise Cabinet of the consultation that Network Rail will be
undertaking on the Kent (Rail) Route Utilisation Strategy (RUS) in
Spring 2009.
Relevant Overview and Scrutiny Committee: Regeneration, Community
and Culture Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
1/2009 The Cabinet agreed to support the
introduction of a formal working arrangement with Kent County
Council to consider public transport issues.
2/2009 The Cabinet agreed to respond to the consultation on the
Kent Route Utilisation Strategy when it is published early in 2009,
taking into account overview and scrutiny's views at that
time.
These decisions will help to ensure that
Medway Council's expectations for rail services are presented for
consideration in the longer-term plans of the Kent rail network and
support the continuing dialogue between Medway Council, Network
Rail and Southeastern on Medway's stations and rail
services.
