This report will seek Cabinet approval to go out to consultation on proposals to replace Medway Community College and Chatham South School with a new Academy.

139/2008 The Cabinet agreed to consult on establishing a new co-educational school in Chatham on the Medway Community College site and instructed officers to enter into negotiations with sponsors and to issue a statement of intent to form an academy.

The Council has a statutory duty to ensure that an appropriate number of school places are available for Medway residents.The Council also has a statutory duty to ensure that its functions are exercised with a view to promoting high standards, ensuring fair access to educational opportunity and promoting the fulfilment by every child of his/her educational potential.
