Purpose:

Cabinet will be asked to approve the Social Regeneration Strategy, the aim of which is to ensure that all sectors of the community in Medway benefit from the future regeneration and development of the area.

Decision:

83/2008 The Cabinet approved the Social Regeneration Strategy 2008-2016 and agreed to adopt it as part of the Regeneration Framework.

Reasons for the decision:

Medway Council has declared as one of its overarching strategic priorities the need for everyone to benefit from the regeneration in Medway. The Social Regeneration Strategy defines how all communities in Medway should benefit from the regeneration. The Social Regeneration Strategy flows from the Regeneration Framework, which declares the crucial importance of both existing and new communities benefiting from the regeneration of Medway.The Social Regeneration Strategy spells out in practical terms how an ongoing programme of social regeneration should intervene so as to further the aim of everyone in Medway benefiting from the regeneration. The strategy will act as a springboard to engage with government and the Regional Development Agency on the imperative of social regeneration, whilst also levering in external funding resources.
