Purpose:

To seek Cabinet approval for the Learning and Skills Plan.

Decision:

45/2008 The Cabinet approved the Medway Learning and Skills Plan and instructed officers to proceed with the backing of the Cabinet, to take forward the implementation of the Medway Learning and Skills Plan.

Reasons for the decision:

The Medway Learning and Skills Plan had received endorsement from the Corporate Management Team, the Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee, and from stakeholders via the consultation process.The Learning and Skills Plan will link the delivery of skills to future economic need and complement the objectives contained within the Community Plan and regeneration framework. It brings together the following themes: learning and skills needs of individuals of all ages; the training needs of businesses; the latest thinking on the direction of the Medway economy; and ensuring that learning providers (from schools to universities) are matching provision according to demand. The Plan is vitally important for delivery of critical elements of the forthcoming Local Area Agreement.The Medway Learning and Skills Plan is cost neutral to the council. In addition, all identified actions are within the remit of delegated powers.
