Decision details

Strood Market Site

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Decision made

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Decision:

23/2007 The Cabinet approved the principle, as landowner, of establishing a market on the Commercial Road Car Park in Strood.
24/2007 The Cabinet requested that the Director of Community Services and, if appropriate, other officers use their delegated powers to seek all necessary statutory approvals to enable the Commercial Road Car Park to be used as a market.
25/2007 The Cabinet delegated authority to the Director of Community Services, in consultation with the Portfolio Holder for Strategic Development and Economic Growth, to finalise the management arrangements including procurement and leasing/licensing the site, if required.

Reasons for the decision:

The balance of local opinion (from residents and businesses) is in favour of retaining a market in Strood and support from the Council in establishing the market on a council owned site will, it is felt, prevent the market from closure, and on balance be of benefit to businesses in Strood.
