Carbon Management Plan

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Decision made

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Cabinet is asked to approve the Carbon Management Plan. Medway Council was one of 26 local authorities selected to take part in the third phase of the Carbon Trust's Local Authority Carbon Management programme. The programme aims to provide a comprehensive process for measuring carbon emissions produced by local authority activity, in order to develop a cost effective plan for making reductions.

Decision:

127/2006 The Cabinet agreed the Carbon Management Action Plan attached at appendix one to the report.

Reasons for the decision:

Reducing carbon emissions is entirely consistent with our key priority and core value to 'maintain and improve the local environment'. In the context of rapidly increasing energy costs (estimates at a 104% increase for Medway this year) the development of a comprehensive action plan to manage the use of energy and thus reduce both energy use and carbon emissions is an essential part of maintaining a sustainable budget for the council.
