Is subject to call in?: Yes
This report relates to a reference from the
meeting of Environment and Front Line Services Overview and
Scrutiny Committee held on 2 September 2004 concerning the use of
CCTV in play areas.
The Cabinet agreed that the feasibility of
installing security cameras be considered in all future
refurbishments of play areas.
The Cabinet instructed officers to prepare a scheme for the
introduction of security cameras in play areas, for consideration
with other priorities for the Council, as part of the budget
setting process for 2005/6.
Repairing play areas that have been damaged by
vandalism is a significant drain on the resources of the Council.
The introduction of security cameras could contribute to a
reduction in damage, and the enhanced safety of users of open
spaces and play areas.
