Alcohol Control Zone

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Decision made

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

This report will review progress of the alcohol zone in Rochester following the first 6 months of operation. The report will ask Cabinet to consider a number of recommendations from the Health and Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Decision:

336/2004 The Cabinet agreed that the Rochester alcohol control zone should be continued indefinitely.
337/2004 The Cabinet agreed that additional street signage will be provided in the zone, to facilitate public awareness and enforcement as quickly as possible.
338/2004 The Cabinet noted the recommendations and comments made by the Health and Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Reasons for the decision:

Consultation with residents, traders and licensees in the zone found that 80% of respondents believed it was having a positive effect. Officers are currently exploring options of joint enforcement through police officers and accredited community safety officers, which will form one of the powers granted through the Community Safety Street Team's accreditation process.
