Purpose:

In October 2008 Cabinet approved a report detailing how the Council would undertake its enforcement role in accordance with the Housing Act 2004 and other relevant housing legislation in respect of private sector housing. The revised policy expands the enforcement policy to inform landlords how the Council will take a decision to instigate formal action where the landlord is not complying with informal enforcement action.

Decision:

14/2010 The Cabinet agreed the revised Enforcement Policy for Private Sector Housing, as set out in appendix one to the report.

Reasons for the decision:

Effective enforcement significantly adds to the safety of Medway and maintains a quality environment and wellbeing of stakeholders. By providing an improved policy framework for enforcement, the Council can ensure that decisions made are consistent, fair, transparent and proportionate to any breaches in legislation.
