132/2006 That the Director of Children's Services be authorised, in consultation with the Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, to develop and implement plans for the establishment of Sure Start Children's Centres at ten schools in Medway.

Reasons for the decision:

The provision of locally accessible support for young children and their families, in partnership with key agencies and local community organisations, through local Sure Start Children's Centres within extended primary schools, offers opportunities for significantly enhancing the life chances of Medway's youngest citizens, particularly those living in more disadvantaged communities. The proposals are fully consistent with Medway's Children and Young People's Plan, and will be delivered within financial resources available in ring-fenced government grant.
