Review of Primary School Places in Walderslade: Consultation Outcomes

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Decision made

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To report back on the review of school places in Walderslade.

Decision:

78/2006 The Cabinet approved option 1, to reduce the admission numbers of the eight schools identified, as set out in section 3.5 of the report.
79/2006 The Cabinet supported the development of an authority wide Council Strategy for addressing falling rolls and smaller schools, in partnership with stakeholders.
80/2006 The Cabinet approved the development of extended school facilities for those schools identified in option 1 in line with the Council's Extended School Strategy.

Reasons for the decision:

Option 1 had very strong support from stakeholders and maximised the opportunity to develop extended primary schools in Walderslade consistent with Medway's Extended School Strategy. This decision would also be consistent with the need to develop an authority wide strategy for tackling falling rolls in Medway that applies to all areas and both primary and secondary schools.
