CCTV in Play Areas

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Decision made

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

This report relates to a reference from the meeting of Environment and Front Line Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee held on 2 September 2004 concerning the use of CCTV in play areas.

Decision:

The Cabinet agreed that the feasibility of installing security cameras be considered in all future refurbishments of play areas.
The Cabinet instructed officers to prepare a scheme for the introduction of security cameras in play areas, for consideration with other priorities for the Council, as part of the budget setting process for 2005/6.

Reasons for the decision:

Repairing play areas that have been damaged by vandalism is a significant drain on the resources of the Council. The introduction of security cameras could contribute to a reduction in damage, and the enhanced safety of users of open spaces and play areas.
