The report summarises the outcome of a recent
review on education provision at the Will Adams Pupil Referral Unit
and makes recommendations on the future of the unit.
142/2004 The Cabinet agreed to waive Contract
Rules to authorise the Director of Education and Leisure to enter a
further contract with Rainer for the period 1 April 2004 - 31 July
2004 without entering into a tendering process.
143/2004 The Cabinet agreed that, as from 1 August 2004, the Will
Adams Key Stage 4 Pupil Referral Unit be brought into the
management of Medway Council pending a fundamental options
appraisal, including a soft market test.
144/2004 The Cabinet agreed that a further report detailing the
options for the location of the Pupil Referral Unit be submitted to
Cabinet for consideration in due course.
The Will Adams Centre is necessary to meet the
Council's legal requirement to provide full time education for
excluded pupils. Local management pending a full options appraisal
provides the opportunity to address the issues identified by the
recent review of the centre, and to combine this with considering
the wider options for the future.
