Purpose:

This report sought Cabinet support to increase the development control staffing structure. The additional staff were necessary to meet increased workloads and government targets for dealing with planning applications within specific timescales on a sustained basis.

Decision:

The Cabinet approved the proposals for the enhancement of the development control service, based on option A as set out at paragraph 4.1 of the report and noted that the Director of Development and Environment would be undertaking the staffing changes under delegated powers.

Reasons for the decision:

In the absence of additional staff the development control service would be unable to sustain its recent improved performance and would be unable to improve the quality of service that it offers.
