Evaluation of Choice Based Lettings

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Decision made

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

This report will present the findings of the operation of the Council's participation in the Government's pilot initiative of choice based lettings. The evaluation will also consider any necessary amendments to the council's housing allocations policy.

Decision:

278/2003 The Cabinet approved the adoption of the HomeChoice model for access into social housing and other tenures in Medway.
279/2003 The Cabinet noted the proposed enhancements in the action plan and, in particular, the need to simplify the current priority banding system to achieve greater transparency and fairness, as part of a planned review of the allocations policy involving public consultation.

Reasons for the decision:

These decisions acknowledged the positive feedback from applicants and other stakeholders and support the Council's strategic aims, as set out under the Somewhere to Live Review report, of enabling local people to find solutions to their housing needs through a process of informing and giving options and choice.
