64/2003 The Cabinet recommended to Council that the recommendations in the report and the addendum report be accepted, with the exceptions of Rochester Airfield Policy S11 and all other references to built development on Rochester Airfield which should be deleted from the plan.

The Cabinet recommended the deletion of the Rochester Airfield policy S11 and all other references to built development on Rochester Airfield as this was consistent with the wishes of residents. The development of Rochester Airfield would result in the loss of a wide tract of open land within the confines of the urban area, which would be detrimental to the general amenity of the locality and in particular to the adjoining communities. The site in its current use is also considered to make a valuable contribution to the needs of General Aviation and the development of a science and technology park would put pressure on the surrounding infrastructure.In order to discharge the Council's obligations in relation to the development plan process as set out in the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as amended) and the Development Plan Regulations and to ensure that the Medway Local Plan proceeds to formal adoption as quickly as possible.
