Establishment of Strood Regeneration Cabinet Advisory Group

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Decision made

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

This report proposes the establishment of a Cabinet Advisory Group to oversee the strategic and co-ordinated regeneration of Strood and also suggests that Chatham Board and Medway Regeneration Advisory Group should be reconstituted in June 2009 as Cabinet Advisory Groups, so to provide consistency of approach and clarity from a constitutional point of view.

Relevant Overview and Scrutiny Committee: Regeneration, Community and Culture

Decision:

55/2009 The Cabinet agreed to establish a Strood Regeneration Cabinet Advisory Group with Terms of Reference as set out in paragraph 3.2 of the report.
56/2009 The Cabinet agreed that the Group meet when necessary and that the membership of the Strood Regeneration Cabinet Advisory Group should be eight Councillors: 5 Conservative, 2 Labour and 1 Liberal Democrat and that the appointment of Members to serve on the Group should be in accordance with nominations received from Group Whips.
57/2009 The Cabinet agreed to notify the Council of the Cabinet's intention to redesignate the Chatham Board and the Medway Regeneration Advisory Group as Cabinet Advisory Groups with the terms of reference and size of membership as set out in section 4 of the report with effect from June 2009.

Reasons for the decision:

The establishment of this new Cabinet Advisory Group will enable a cross-party group of Members to maintain a regular overview of the regeneration of Strood and to advise the Cabinet and Council, as appropriate, when decisions relating to the regeneration programme are required. The redesignation of Chatham Board and Medway Regeneration Advisory Group aligns the constitutional position of all three groups dealing with regeneration.
