Carers Advisory and Support Services Contract Awards - Gateway Three

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Decision made

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

This report will recommend the award of two contracts for three years in relation to a Community Based Advisory Service for Carers and Individuals with Social Care Needs and Carers Support Services in Medway. These contracts have the option to extend for a further 24 months.

Relevant Overview and Scrutiny: Health and Adult Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Decision:

257/2008 The Cabinet awarded a 3 year contract in relation to a Community Based Advisory Service to Carers First/Medway Carers and awarded a 3 year contract to Crossroads Medway for the delivery of carer support services across Medway, as set out in the exempt appendix.

Reasons for the decision:

The decision to award a 3 year contract to Carers First/Medway Carers for the delivery of carers advisory services and a 3 year contract to Crossroads Medway for the delivery of carers support services is consistent with two of the priorities of Medway Council's six priorities. The support provided by carers is vital in ensuring that vulnerable people maintain their independence and continue to live within the local community. If these services were not available many vulnerable adults would have to move into more costly residential care options.
