9. Member's Item Young Refugees and Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children

  • Councillor Clive Johnson - Non Pecuniary - Following advice from the legal officer, Councillor Johnson declared a non-pecuniary interest because he was on the Steering Group of the Medway City of Sanctuary. Having considered the provision in the Member Code of Conduct on “other significant interests” Councillor Johnson left the meeting during discussion of this item.

9. Overview and scrutiny activity

  • Councillor Clive Johnson - Other interests - Councillor Johnson stated that at the Children and Young People Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 11 January 2018, following legal advice, he had declared a non-pecuniary interest in his Member’s Item on Young Refugees and Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children because he was on the Steering Committee of the Medway City of Sanctuary. Whilst he withdrew from the Children and Young People Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting for discussion on that item, he expressed the view that he should have been able to participate in the discussion of the item, which was confirmed by his subsequent discussion with the Monitoring Officer. He stated that he had now resigned from the Steering Committee of the Medway City of Sanctuary and that he would speak on the issue under this item with reference to the Member’s Item on Young Refugees and Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children.

7. Annual Report on School Performance 2017

  • Councillor Clive Johnson - Non Pecuniary - Councillor Johnson declared a non-pecuniary interest this item by virtue of his position as governor, Director and Trustee of Chatham Grammar School for Girls Academy Trust. He stated that the Academy Trust no longer controls the school but still exists during the winding up period.
