Summary

This report seeks authority to consult on a revised draft of the Medway Statement of Community Involvement (SCI). The SCI is a statutory requirement to support effective engagement in planning.

Consultation process

The consultation will involve a broad range of stakeholders including statutory and voluntary organisations, businesses, local groups and residents. There will be a particular focus on reaching those with an interest in planning and development issues.

The consultation will run from mid June to late July 2014, and will involve notification to stakeholders to invite their views on the revised SCI. There will be opportunities to respond online through the Council’s website, or reply to the Planning Policy team. The consultation will consider the use of focus groups to collate views from specific groups of interests.

Officers will produce a report following the consultation, setting out responses received, issues raised and how the Council will consider these in producing a final version of the updated SCI.

Officers will prepare a final version of the updated SCI following consultation and bring a report back to Cabinet, together with feedback on the consultation responses. The target date for this Cabinet meeting is 30 September 2014.
