Reinstating chains at Rochester High St junction on Saturdays

We the undersigned petition the council to Reinstate the chains at the junctions of Rochester High Street, Boley Hill & Northgate to prevent the risk of harm to the public.

We find that the council are prioritising making money from fining cars, rather than the safety of its citizens.

The council have removed the chains from the junction which prevent cars from driving down Rochester High Street on a Saturday between the hours of 10 am - 4 pm.

Instead, they have installed cameras to automatically fine cars which abuse their restriction and have removed the chains.

As historically there has been the chain, we have found that cars are driving down on a Saturday without realising the restrictions and unbeknownst to them, being fined.

Most importantly, this is also putting pedestrians at risk as cars are continuing to drive down the street at highs of 30MPH on a road which is full of pedestrians due to the nature of it being 'closed' on a Saturday.

Anecdotally, there have been instances of cars manoeuvring round toddlers on bicycles and verbally harassing pedestrians as the car believes, without the chain that they have right of way.

This is not safe and the council need to take action to reinstate the chain with immediate effect.
